Public Transportation is limited in San Diego?

The Transit being the trolley system only travels a certain distance from south to the border to Downtown and East County. I guess the North County would not like such a trolley transit system in their neighborhood because it would cause riff raff. So, I am stuck driving my SUV Lexus @ $100.00 to fill up each week till San Diego improves their transportation system to include the North County area.
