1988 F150 Fuel issue?

Yesterday, I had an issue where the truck spit and sputtered and then died and WOULD NOT start. Best I could hear, all pumps were running. After hrs and hrs I quit. Went out this morning and fired right up. Could this be as simple as the filter, after sitting overnight and sediment kinda settled? Afraid to drive it . Thanks for your help
