I have a student arriving soon to stay with us & she wants to pay us in Travellers cheques, is this possible?

Students normally pay us via the langauge school however, this one student has suggested she can pay us board with travellers cheques, can I pay these cheques into my uk bank account? would it be like normal sterling cash? or should i ask the student to cash them herself & give me cash to pay into my bank account??
