Can anything bad happen from prolonged use of baby gas drops?

My friend has a 7 month old, and ever since the baby has been born, at every feeding my friend gives the baby mylicon drops. She is terrified of her baby getting colic I suppose. Still sometimes the baby cries really hard for no reason. Could the mylicon drops be keeping her from getting gas off her stomach and making her upset and that is why she cries so hard sometimes?
